You know you’re a true blue foodie when mere social media posts and nostalgic chats about rain in Kolkata can trigger an insatiable craving for khichdi. Even though this comfort food is traditionally enjoyed on rainy days in Bengali households, I decided to brave the scorching 42°C Dubai heat to hunt for groceries and make khichdi to satisfy my craving. Picture this: enjoying a steaming plate of khichdi with the AC blasting, while pretending it’s raining outside. As the Bengali saying goes, “uthlo bai to cuttack jayi” (if you get on the boat, you might as well go to Cuttack)—once the craving hit, there was no turning back! Ah, the lengths we’ll go to for a taste of home! 😄
